Most Joyful Day

I’ve been married twice. First husband got some issues with women. My second… well, my first husband, when we got our divorce I said, “Thank you! God, send me somebody.” I gave him specifications. When he left, he tried to come back but he didn’t come back right. But I met someone and he was all the specifications that I asked God for, the Lord for. So, I know God’s… he working. He works in mysterious ways. But that was my joyous occasion when I met my second husband. And how we met, we both worked for Chase and he happened to notice me and I noticed him. Eventually, we went on a date and when I met him I said, “Oh this is such a joyous… just to be in a company of someone who respects you, and values your opinion, and you could communicate,” so forth.

We got together and we got to a point where we was working at the same table across from each other. We see each other every day. That was my second job because leaving a ex with old bills and stuff, so had to get a second job. I got that and we hooked up and eventually,

We got married. We didn’t have no children because it was later in life. I already had two kids, two boys. Only men is in my house. Where’s my bobby pins? And that was my joyous occasion, meeting my husband that I’m with now. We’ve been together for about 26 years.

Love Changes

My first love. I wasn’t too young and a little bit older, we would say not eighteen, maybe older than that. And first it was infatuation because I noticed him first, but he was very shy. I’m a little bit more aggressive. So he worked at a laundromat, and he was just doing his job. And I found it more enjoyable to do laundry after that. I just said, “Mom, pile it on, I’ll take it to the laundry. So he was shy. So I had to really show him that I was interested in him. He didn’t approach me. I approached him, and I smiled, and I talked, and then we became boyfriend and girlfriend. But what I came to find out that I was his first girlfriend. So that’s why it was me being more aggressive than he was. But we became good friends, and we did a lot together.

But he was just coming out. So relationship was new to him. So we got together; boyfriend, girlfriend, we did things, but I found, through the years, he wanted more of himself; to be more of a man. So what separated us was he went into the army, and he said he wanted to become a man, more of a, because he wanted to take care of me, and marry me, and so forth. But when he went into the army, it changed him, and he became the man I didn’t like. So he started drinking, smoking, things like that. Picked up a lot of habits. So to this day, when we see each other, we still have that attraction. So what he did; he finally moved out of state. It was getting a little bit too much. I was in another relationship and he was in another one, as well.

But every time we would see each other, that first love attraction would hit us. Yeah. You know, because I’m remembering the first time I met him. So that’s what I see. And what he sees is me now. So we did a lot of things together. We did. We went to the movies, we went to dinner, things like that.

But, eventually, when I did see him, he looked a little bit like he… hard, like it was hard for him; a hard life. But I still remember him as back. So that’s good for me. And I recently, at Gowanus Day, I met his sister, and she’s telling me all things about him. She also said, “I’m going to tell him that you look good and all, I’m going to make him so mad that he didn’t get together; you stayed.” So that’s really what happened so. And that was my story, my first love.
