Well, my wedding at age 23 I was when I got married. The reception after the wedding was very beautiful. It was really great. People were talking and dancing. It was really nice to see all of them. It was in the country of Mexico.

Carolyn met me in Boston during a banking convention. Her father was a banker. We were writing letters back and forth then finally I got her phone number and I called her from New York to Mexico. Then I let her go for a while. We were out of touch. Then we were back in touch. we got together before that. I took her to dinner. She was like 17. We got to talking.

I thought I was never going to see her again. I go to work the next evening. I was working in Boston. I was working in the toy department. The toy department put me in the place on the top floor to return things you don’t want, things you bought and don’t want or someone gave you and you want to return it. I’m standing there and all of the sudden she walks through the front door. I had met her the night before, we had dinner. I met her in the Catholic Student Center. I said, “Carolyn, what are you doing here? My God.” She said her mother was given gifts and she didn’t like them. I said, “Come with me,” and I brought her to the place to return articles you don’t want. So her mother was doing that and we got to talking. I said, “I get off work in half an hour, we can go to the student center. Right? Right?” And she said, “Okay, I’ll meet you over at the student center. And we’ll talk.”

So a half hour went by and I went to the student center and she was there. She said, “Lorrie, I’ll be in touch with you.” I said, “I’ll wait for you to get in touch with me.”

She wrote me so many letters and I went to visit her. We had a courtship. We went to parties. We went around the city and showed me all the highlights of the city, how pretty it is in the suburbs and all that. So anyway, I flew back at Christmastime with an engagement ring.

So we got married and we came back to New York. We went to Westchester county. We got an apartment and seven months later I got her pregnant. Nine months later, my daughter was born. Very normal. No problems. She’s grown now, 29 age-wise. She’s chronologically 39 but she looks so young! 29!

We ended the marriage because I was afraid her parents were very down on me. And I had physical health suffering. I loved her. My mother counseled me. So, we ended it. Carolyn came up with my daughter. I went back down there in 1977 to sign the final annulment that the marriage was no more.

My daughter would come back to see me. I hadn’t seen her in a long time. I saw her for one evening. She didn’t come back after that.

In the 1930s, my father acted professionally out in Hollywood. I had auditions when I was 11 years old. He didn’t know if I would be a talented actor or not. In ninth grade, I was in speech and drama.

I grew up in the southeast. We didn’t want to live there, but we didn’t have enough money. My mom divorced my father and he didn’t give alimony and child support, and she didn’t have much. She was a budding secretary and worked in reception. Wherever I lived, I had kid friends. I had boy friends, I had girl friends. Us boys, three boys, we used to get together and we’d play cowboys and Indians. Army battle. We’d play detectives. For the most part, we really got along. And I hurt one of them, and I apologized; I didn’t mean it.

I was seven years old, it was an accident. The girls had baby carriage dolls and whatever. We’d go to the beach. Her parents took them to the beach with her. Time around the ocean. It was fun, very nice. Kathy, her name was. A nice kid, Kathy. She was like six years old or something. The man my mother was married to–the second man–was insensitive. Mean, prejudiced. He didn’t act normally at times. I don’t know how she put up with that shit. He would get violent.

She used to argue with him. She couldn’t leave. She didn’t have enough money to.

And we went to another neighborhood, then to my aunt, way over in the Atlantic Ocean, beach area. And I lived there; I was raised around my aunt and cousins. And that’s it. That was in Florida.

At age 11, I visited New York in the summer. Long Island, as a kid. Then I came up to visit at age 14, to visit my father. We got along very well. And I suffered people because I was just too on edge. And I was over tired and anxiety ridden.

Siamese cats are beautiful. My father and his wife had Siamese cats, adorable. They were nice animals and I kissed them all the time. Sing and Sarah, and Ming Choi were their names. There were three of them. Oh adorable. Blue eyes, they had very blue eyes. Do you know how I suffered for years? I made them suffer. With a broom. I use to ask God for forgiveness. You always hurt the ones you love. After I left, a month later, they were all right.
