Yo Quisiera – Oscar D’ Leon

I was thinking that when I was 15 years old they sent me on vacation to Puerto Rico to stay with an aunt. And just like you, Stephanie, my family, my mom’s and my dad’s family, they were the only ones who came to the United States and never came back. I was able to meet family, my cousins, I had a grandmother who was still alive. I was thinking every Saturday, my cousin, would get up and play her music to clean the house and I would help her. Then I discovered Oscar de León, the song was, is, “Yo Quisiera”. And she danced, my cousin Sonia, with that voice. With that music, anyone could clean.

That trip changed me. Because I was able to appreciate who I am and my culture.
